With summer teasing us in spring we felt inspired to showcase this season’s most beautiful make-up palettes and collections ideal for this spring-summer ’11 beauty trends. The make-up experts tell Lorraine Rikie how to make the products work for you and how to nail each trend.

Spring summer makeup trend - Pop Art

Colour blocking was big on the catwalks so get it in your make-up bag too. A palette of crayola colours were spotted on models for spring/summer ‘11. At Dior (pictured) sizzling red lips were teamed with red eye shadow, whilst over at Fendi and Marni tangerine lips were paired with a minimalist face.

Brit designer Louise Gray sent her models down the runway with eyelashes heavily coated with turquoise mascara and finished with rich purple shadow for eye popping effect. Create your own kaleidoscope of colour with the Famous Eye Collection Palette in festival; alternatively why not give nails the rainbow bright effect with Chanel’s newest nail colour in Mimosa, this vibrant yellow will make you smile no matter what the weather.

Make-up artist Lin Yee at Premier Hair & Make-up gives us her top tips when it comes to tackling colour:“To make things really ‘pop’ use complementary colours, these are colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel. Examples are green with red or orange. Alternatively you could try yellow/violet/orange and blue.”

For a take on the Louise Gray look, Lin Yee suggest using different colours on the top and bottom of the eyes for the beauty brave. “On brown eyes use a soft lilac complemented with dark aubergine mascara – this will really intensify your eyes.”

Spring summer makeup trend - Fresh Nudes

It’s not often we’re asked to go nude, but this season beauty goes back to basics. On the catwalk at Alexander Wang and Christopher Kane (pictured) faces looked minimal except for a super-charged healthy glow.

“It’s all about the prep of skin – conditioning and nourishing it to the max,” explains make-up artist Sam Bryant. Get that luminous look with Dolce & Gabbana’s Perfect Finish Powder Foundation with a feather-light consistency it can be used wet or dry for a flawless finish. Get a healthy dewy glow with MAC’s Strobe Cream which adds a brightening sheen to your complexion, wear alone, underneath or mixed with foundation.

Expert tip from make-up artist Yin Lee: “Use a light foundation that has a slight sheen to it, buff this thoroughly into the skin and finish with a creamy highlighter that will reflect light and give your face a 3D glow. To really open up eyes, curl lashes and finish the look by lining the lower rim of the eye with a light pale pink or beige pencil.”

Spring summer makeup trend - Red Alert

Sexy sultry red lips aren’t just for winter. At YSL, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton (pictured) red lips made a bold statement for a gorgeously decadent summer twist. For the perfect Hollywood pout, try Lipstick Queen’s Fame Pop Art Gloss in 9 minutes, this moisturising gloss keeps lips ultra hydrated and the best bit? No shimmer, just pure colour. We’re also fans of Topshop’s limited edition sandstorm collection. For sheer coverage try the lipgloss stick in Ablaze.

Expert tip from make-up artist Lin Yee at Premier: “Use a slightly slanted and rounded angled lipbrush to draw precisely the shape you desire. For instance if you want to get that perfect movie star pout you can use the rounded shape to make your lips fuller looking on the top. If you want to go for the more pointed shape you can use the angled side of the lip brush to make it sharper looking.”
